Hawkeye Downs was where the first Davenport science fair in 1984 inspiring students of STEM learners. Hawkeye Downs's parking lot was expanded in 2010 to include over 3, 000 additional parking spaces for big gatherings. In 2018 Hawkeye Downs hosted the Annual Cedar Rapids Food Truck Festival attracting over 50 food vendors. Some seating areas offer a clear view of the starting line and race end for ultimate thrill. Trackside seating is often considered the most exciting way to experience the race firsthand. Travel east on Highway 6 from the outskirts of town and turn onto Hawkeye Avenue. From the west, follow Highway 92 eastward and make a turn onto Hawkeye Road near the town boundary.
