About The American Five in Washington
C. Ruggles, known for his extremely atonal and polyphonic music, was born on the 11th of March, 1876 in Marion, Massachusetts. The Group of Five's pieces are often narrative drawing on U. S. Cultural narratives. Cowell's ' The Sunken Land' ( 1926 ) is an avant-garde dance music that was lost for decades. Surprisingly, Nancarrow was largely learned composition on his own, developing his distinctive approach independently of traditional training. The composer's ' Musical Invocations' is a series of four compositions for orchestra showcasing his style; curiously, Ives's ' Booth's Ascension ' ( 1914 ) is a setting of a poem by Lindsay, blending hymnody with modernist dissonance.
