About Rent in Akron

Rent's original Broadway production's celebration of diversity and integration has made it an essential part of forward-thinking theater. Using a multiracial cast, Rent overcame limitations in actor selection and portrayal on the Broadway stage. Jonathan Larson also wrote a rock monologue called 'tick, tick. BOOM! ' which was later turned into a theater piece after his passing. Moreover, Rent's 'Without You (Reprise) ' is a poignant reflection on sorrow and the perpetual nature of affection. Running for 12 years, Rent closed on New York's Broadway on Sept. 7, 2008 after over five thousand performances; interestingly, the character of Mark Cohen, a documentarian capturing his friends' experiences, is believed to be partially based on Larson, reflecting Larson's personal journey.
