About Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at Auditorium Theatre - IL
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is the first American dance company to tour outside the US extensively beginning with a performance trip to European countries in 1962. Featuring a diverse repertoire, the company has exhibited works by dance creators such as the choreographer Talley Beatty and Dove. In 1981, Ailey established the Ailey School, which delivers education for aspiring dancers and a pre-professional training for young performers. In fact, Ailey's early exposure to dance came from going to a nearby church in the African American community, where he was motivated by the hymns and the performances. Participating in the Dance/USA Conference the company collaborates with other figures in the performing arts community; remarkably, Ailey's influence extends beyond dance; he inspired generations of artists across various art forms, including drama and cinema.
