About Detroit Symphony Orchestra at Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall
Detroit's Symphony Ensemble's first music director was Emil Paur who led the orchestra from 1887 to the late 19th century. Coordinating themed events like Halloween at the Symphony, the orchestra engages attendees in joyful events. In 1980, the DSO established its first resident composer position, furthering its commitment to new music. Curiously, the DSO has collaborated with various pop artists, including the Grammy-winning rock band The Black Keys in late 2010s. Playing internationally, the DSO has toured Europe and Asia to showcase its artistry with international listeners; notably, the DSO has received numerous accolades for its educational programs, including recognition from leading cultural institutions.
