UTEP Miners are acknowledged for their historical achievements in fencing, consistently competing at a competitive level in NCAA championships. With their esteemed tradition of cheerleading and spirit squads, UTEP enhances the game-day experience for supporters. After the Miners' basketball team's legendary journey in the 1966 NCAA tournament, it became a symbol of resilience and teamwork. In 1948, the UTEP football program played their first game in the newly constructed Sun Bowl Stadium. In 2017, the UTEP football program held a special alumni game to celebrate the roles of past athletes.
