About Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
Ailey's ensemble is known for its yearly shows at the City Center of New York which has become a popular custom since 1961. Presenting at the executive mansion for the inaugural performance in 1979, the company showcased its talent to a public audience. Ailey's performances often tackled themes of ethnicity, social unity, and the celebration of African heritage. Notably, in 1970, Ailey established the Ailey Arts Foundation, which supports the arts and the advancement of training in dance. Curating a collection of over two hundred forty pieces the ensemble has showcased a wide range of artistic expressions; truly, Revelations, Ailey's most well-known performance, premiered in 1960, and is rooted in his formative years and the traditions of African Americans.
Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
The Pavilion is known for its remarkable facade featuring a striking cantilevered roof design. Having a performance area that is 59 ft in width and approximately 46 feet long allowed for elaborate sets at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The hall's lobby features a collection of large artworks by creator Richard Diebenkorn. Launching on 12th of September, 1964 marked the start of this site's role as a cultural landmark in Los Angeles. The flanking boxes can provide a more comfortable observation, away from the noise and activity of the primary audience.
