About 1776 - The Musical at Ford's Theatre

The performance includes the piece 'Mama, Look Sharp' which reflects the toll of conflict on humanity. Acknowledging the role of the first president, the production subtly pays tribute to his significant influence in the Revolution. 1776: The Musical was the pioneering show to be performed at the recently restored American Airlines Theatre in New York. Notably, the production has been employed in election campaigns and gatherings to summon themes of national pride and unity. Featuring a company mainly consisting of male performers, the production illustrates the era of the 18th century; significantly, the show was re-staged on the New York stage several occasions, with major revivals occurring in 1997 and two thousand eight.

Ford's Theatre

The historic venue is the only venue in the country where a currently serving president was killed. Undergoing a conflagration in 1893 led to extensive repairs and a change in its purpose. The site was locked after Lincoln's death and did not resume operations until 1866. Presenting artistic displays in the venue promotes regional talent and artistic endeavors. Standing room patrons often have the chance to socialize with other theatre-goers, creating a dynamic atmosphere. Luxury seating can be a sign of affluence for certain patrons, demonstrating a guest’s commitment to culture. If you're coming from the transit hub, take the train to Gallery Place-Chinatown and walk a few city blocks. If you’re near the art museum, it’s just a quick jaunt to the venue.
