About 1776 - The Musical at Ford's Theatre

The show’s score includes the powerful anthem The Egg, which discusses the birth of a nation. Attaining a total of 1, 217 performances, the original Broadway run concluded on January 14, 1972. The musical was restaged on Broadway in 1997, starring Brent Spiner as John Adams. Curiously, the character of Roger Sherman is depicted as a pragmatic thinker, advocating for compromise among the delegates. Incorporating the iconic song Sit Down John, the score features several notable pieces that drive the story forward; curiously, the character of George Mason is included as a voice for individual rights, adding complexity to the discussions about government.

Ford's Theatre

The theater is situated across from the Petersen House where Lincoln died shortly after being shot. Using gas lighting during the 19th century made Ford's Theatre one of the limited theatres with advanced illumination at the time. The theatre was named after its owner John T. Ford who launched the theatre. Performing plays that focus on themes of freedom and justice connects to Lincoln’s vision. Box seats often come with additional amenities, such as dedicated service and exclusive access. The orchestra area is where the excitement of the audience often reaches its peak during climactic moments. To enjoy a beautiful route, stroll down Pennsylvania Avenue towards Ford's Theatre. Should you be on the Metro, disembark at Gallery Place and head a few streets to the theatre.
