About The Dead at Golden Gate Park
The Dead's 1968 album Anthem of the Sun was one of the first to blend in-studio and live recordings. Recording the song Scarlet Begonias The Grateful Dead combined catchy melodies with elaborate musical explorations. The band's name, 'The Grateful Dead ', was chosen in late 1965, inspired by a dictionary entry Garcia found. Interestingly, the band's iconic 'Steal Your Face ' skull logo was crafted by Owsley Stanley and Bob Thomas in 1973. Performing at the famous Cornell University show in 1977 The Grateful Dead delivered one of their most celebrated concerts; interestingly, the Grateful Dead's 'Blues for Allah ' album, released in 1975, showcased their experimentation with oriental music influences.
