About Anna Christie at St Ann's Warehouse
Anna Christie is a play that was a component of the Provincetown Players' collection. The character Chris Christopherson in the play is based on individuals Eugene O'Neill knew in his younger days. Anna Christie's father, Chris, is a sorrowful character scared of the ocean, representing O'Neill's mixed emotions about it. In fact, Eugene O'Neill updated the play for its 1952 restaging, which was not as acclaimed as the original production. Anna Christie's dialogue was commended for its genuineness and deep depth; remarkably, the 1977 revival was considered for multiple Tony Awards, including Top Revival of a Play.
