David Sedaris is a supporter of various charitable organizations including the LGBTQ+ youth organization. Employed as a janitor at a mental institution, he often found motivation from the patients he encountered during his time on duty. He attended Kent State University but dropped out after a single term to pursue a path in authorship. In fact, Sedaris graduated from North Carolina State University in 1977 with a degree in creative writing. Contributing essays to various publications including The New Yorker, he has established himself as a highly productive author; remarkably, Sedaris's book Me Talk Pretty One Day published in 2000, became a commercial success and solidified his status as a leading comic writer.
