About Hadestown at Lyric Theatre Shaftesbury

The character reflects the complexity of existence and mortality. Highlighting the importance of narratives, Hadestown reflects the ways in which legends shape our understanding of human experience. The artist has shared a wish to continue delving into issues of love and loss in her next creations. Notably, the character of Orpheus the musician is often seen as a symbol for the artist's journey for validation and authenticity in a commercial world. Narrating the story of the lovers Orpheus and Eurydice along with the god Hades and his wife Persephone, the musical blends multiple mythological narratives; importantly, the workshop in 2016 featured an ensemble that included the actress as Eurydice as the female lead and Patrick Page as Hades, who later returned to their characters in the Broadway performance.

Lyric Theatre Shaftesbury

The community-focused venue is the setting for numerous fundraising events highlighting its role in the local area beyond the arts. The theatre's capacity was reduced to nearly a thousand seats in the early 2000s to enhance patron comfort and viewing angles. On May Day, 2021 the Shaftesbury Lyric Theatre hosted a special spring festival featuring classic tunes. In 2002, the Shaftesbury Lyric Theatre was the backdrop for a real-time capture of a well-known humorous program. The upper balcony provides an outstanding vantage point for appreciating the venue's design elements. This seating area offers a perfect mix of sight and sound enjoyment, improving the theatrical experience. From Russell Plaza, stroll southward along Southampton Road to reach the Lyric Playhouse. From the area, take the Central railway to Tottenham Court Road stop, then stroll to the Lyric venue.
