About Columbus Jazz Orchestra at Southern Theatre
Columbus Jazz Orchestra are a focal point for artistic experimentation and originality. Highlighting female artists the musical group presents the achievements of women in jazz through special performances. A collaboration with the city's art gallery in 2018 explored the relationship between jazz music and visual arts. Notably, the group's annual jazz and barbecue event is one of the biggest no-cost jazz events in the US. Building alliances the musical group works together with other cultural institutions to enrich Columbus's cultural landscape; in fact, the group was given the Jazz Ensemble of the Year award in 2017 by the Association of Jazz Journalists.
Columbus Jazz Orchestra Concerts Southern Theatre
Southern Theatre is the stage where the premiere of the Nutcracker by BalletMet took place in the early 2000s. Hosting educational matinees, the theater provides students with opportunities to introduce students to stage performances. In 1997, the establishment was the location for the official kickoff celebration of the Ohio State Fair.
